Richard Scofield was a speedy halfback on the gridiron during the 1951-54 years. He often broke for long gains or touchdowns and was a tough linebacker on defense. An exceptional trackman on the cinders where he put his speed to good use, usually scoring in two-digit figures in the sprints and middle distance events. He earned a fourth place in the 440-yard dash at the 1954 State Track Meet. A 3-sport athlete, he was a varsity basketball player during his high school years.
