Gordon Clarke

  • Gordon W. Clarke, '29, graduated from Gallaudet University in 1935 and taught at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticut for 38 years. He retired from the school in 1973. He was a member of St. Paul's Mission for the Deaf in West Hartford serving as its layreader for 50 years, a founder of the Connecticut Association of the Deaf established in 1939, a life member of the National Association for the Deaf, a charter member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, a board member of the Council of Organizations Serving the Deaf, a member of the Gallaudet University Alumni Association and served as alumni editor of the American Era for 24 years.

     

    Clarke was married to Ruth (Fish) Clarke for 66 years. He passed away at the age of 90 on January 19, 2002.
