Charles was a defensive guard who saw considerable action for the Bulldogs for four years. He was a dedicated team player who was valuable to any team. He also played offensive center and guard. He played on the undefeated football team in 1960 and on the Peace Garden Championship football team in 1961. He also was in track and played basketball.
